Jackson Election Commission Hires McMillan As New Administrator

The Jackson County Election Commission has selected Drew McMillan to take over as Election Administrator.

McMillan said community trust and running an honest operation are important to him in the new role.

“I’ve always wanted to be heavily involved in the community of Jackson County,” McMillan said. “I love it here and, I love the people here. So, this is just me being able to help the citizens and help the community in a different way.”

McMillan said he is currently being trained and certified by the previous administrator Clay Thaxton. Thaxton stepped away from the position for a new job opportunity.

“There are five members on the election commission, and I went through the interview process,” McMillan said. “Luckily, they trusted me and put their trust in me to be the next election commissioner. I know I got big boots to fill with Clay Thaxton.”

McMillan said a start date is still being worked out. McMillan teaches at Jackson County Middle School, and the start of school has changed the time line.

“I have been a teacher for six years,” McMillan said. “I taught 7th grade social studies all six of those years. I also coached a little bit of everything.”
