Jackson Cuts Ribbon On New Election Office

The Jackson County Elections Commission celebrated the ribbon cutting of the new office that will serve as the new voting location.

The office is located on North Grundy Quarles Highway in Gainesboro. Jackson County Administrator of Elections Drew McMillan said the office will improve the functionality of election days.

“We have probably tripled our space,” McMillan said. “So not only will it be easier for voters to get in and out of our facility and navigate, but we also have more storage for all of our equipment.”

The elections commission moved into the building a couple of weeks before the ribbon cutting. McMillan said the new facility is a much safer place to vote.

“We are very secure,” McMillan said. “A very secure building which is very important elections security and election integrity. We will just like streamline the voting process and just a one way in one way out voting process.”

McMillan said it was important for the election voting location to be separated from the courthouse.

“It got us out of the courthouse which on election day people and early voting people were coming in and out to vote,” McMillan said. “And you have all the other candidates that may be running you know there at their offices and this just gets it away from the courthouse and our own physical address for voters to come to.”

Early voting is right around the corner for the upcoming August election. This will be the first time voters will vote at the new facility. McMillan said they have used the media to try and get the word out to citizens of the new voting location. The facility opened at 238 N. Grundy Quarles Highway.
