Jackson County Director of Schools Jason Hardy said the county is searching for a new nutrition supervisor to maintain the system’s quality of service.
Current supervisor Hailey Sullivan accepted a new job with the state as a CTE consultant. Hardy said the county wants to get the most qualified candidate it can, but is not looking to change how school nutrition is handled.
“We’ve done a good job of upgrading the things that are in the cafeteria and bringing in new and exciting things that kids might want, so we’re hoping that someone’ll come in with that same attitude of always looking to improve,” Hardy said.
Hardy said Sullivan is going to continue working with the county until the beginning of November. Hardy said the new supervisor will be in charge of all aspects of school nutrition, from managing the kitchen staff across the county’s schools to ordering food and managing the budgets for student meals.
“We want to put the right person in place to overlook this nutrition program and make sure our kids are getting the best services possible,” Hardy said.
Hardy said the county would like to hire someone as soon as possible so the new supervisor can get proper on-the-job training.
“Ms. Sullivan’s done a great job of really thinking outside the box when it comes to nutrition, and we give our students ample opportunities and a variety of things that a lot of schools don’t,” Hardy said.
