Jackson Co. Emergency Management Gauging Interest In Training

Jackson County Emergency Management gauging interest in EMT and EMR training.

Spokesperson Derek Woolbright said EMT is a higher level of licensure that allows one to work in an ambulance. He said EMRs are typically what people consider first responders.

“We like most everyone in the state, especially in the Upper Cumberland are kind of feeling that provider shortage,” Woolbright said. “So this was a way we were sort of gauging interest so we could maybe facilitate a class here in the county so we can maybe help in our shortage issues.”

Woolbright said this kind of education has been offered locally in the past. He said participants will learn CPR, airway management, and other basic first aid.

Woolbright said they have been pleasantly surprised by the response so far. He said it seems there are many in the county who are interested in the opportunity.

“We really would like more people locally, especially here in Jackson County involved in EMS and in turn hopefully ease those shortage problems.”

Woolbright said if you are interested, reach out to the department at 931-268-2556, or reach out on the Jackson County Emergency Management Services Facebook page.
