The Jackson County School System received a $175,000 award grant for being a Best for All District.
The Board of Education voted Thursday to use the money as a one-time $700 bonus for all faculty and staff.
“It’s over due and it’s really deserved because all of them, the teachers and what everybody’s been through and has to go through,” School Board Chair Mark Brown said. “All your staff has to go through it.”
Brown said the bonus would come to any personnel that is renewed and returns to the district next school year. Director of Schools Kristy Brown said the payment will be used as a retention tool while also giving thanks to those who contributed to the distinction.
“It’s a district wide recognition pre-k through 12,” Brown said. “Just thought there is a lot of people that contribute to us being able to be named a district like that.”
The State Department of Education named Jackson County Schools as a Best for all District in February for investing federal COVID into student achievement. Brown said the school system earned the recognition for implementing early literacy programs and addressing foundational skills in young students.
“Just appreciate everything that everybody does,” Brown said.
