Indoor Soccer Complex In Memory Of Son Being Considered By Algood

The possibility of an indoor soccer complex to serve local young people appears to be moving forward in Algood.

The project would feature an indoor soccer field and a walking track around the field. There would also be an additional soccer field outside. Anthony Warlick is President of the Joseph Warlick Memorial Foundation. Warlick said the project would be in memory of his son.

“It’s been a dream since the beginning that not only do we get the Top Soccer program to be able to give back to the community in that aspect of it, but to be able to provide a building from the Foundation for his legacy, Warlick said. “And to be able to give back to the community and that is the biggest thing we wanted to accomplish as a family,” Warlick said.

If Algood agrees to move forward with the project, it would be located at the old Algood baseball field. Warlick said the playground, concession stand and bathroom already at the location would be maintained. Warlick said city council is considering the idea.

“This is a project we’ve been working on for a couple years now and trying to find land and partnership to be able to do that,” Warlick said. “Algood is who we’ve been talking to lately and honestly our best option.”

The size of the indoor field will be 55 to 65 yards in length and 35 to 45 yards in width. There will be a net around the field so those using the track do not have to be concerned about soccer balls flying into their path.

“We have the funds that have been promised, and its just a matter to what extent we can do over top of that to enhance the building and land next to it,” Warlick said.

Warlick said he will be having a fundraiser to get extra funds for the project if it is approved. Warlick said if the Council approves the facility, he hopes to break ground by spring.
