How To Make Snow Cream In Just 15 Minutes

Cooped up inside, need a family activity or maybe just looking for a delicious dessert.

This snow cream recipe from the UT ag extension office can satisfy your needs. Retired Agent Robbie Melton said you need three eggs, 1 and a half cups of sugar, two tablespoons of vanilla, one can of evaporated milk, one and half cups of regular milk and a bunch of snow.

“You combine the eggs, sugar, vanilla and the milk in a bowl and whisk it together real good,” Melton said. “You want to make sure you get those eggs combined good and using a double boiler slowly lower the mixture to 160 degrees.”

Melton said you then transfer the mixture to a large metal bowl and set it outside for 5-10 minutes. Melton said once cooled, slowly spoon the snow into the mixture using a hand mixer.

“It’s really good, and it is so much fun for the kids to watch you make it,” Melton said.”They can help you gather the snow and just make sure you gather where you know where the snow is clean like a table on your deck.”

Melton said the process only takes about 15 minutes. Melton said if you do not have a double boiler, you can use a sauce pan and bowl. Use the pan as the bottom, fill with some water and bring it to a boil. Then place the bowl in the heated pan to make a double boiler.
