Highlands Residential Approves Next Property Purchase Step

Cookeville’s Highlands Residential Services took the next step in acquiring property adjacent to Eagles Landing.

Board members approved Thursday a Contract of Purchase and Sales Agreement. Executive Director Dow Harris said the property will completely change the master plan.

“Instead of us even considering west…it gets us moving east,” Harris said. “It gives us the access that we need. It saves us from having to build that 600 or 700 foot of roadway down to Hickory Valley. The city is going to be real pleased with the access now that we have to the future phases.”

Vice Chairman Robert Owens said this is another big step. The property is a 14 acre lot off Jackson Street near Eagles Landing. In June HRS offered $650,000 for the plot to a group of investors from New York City who own the property. If developed, the property will provide the space for 200 low income houses.

During the meeting, members approved the architecture designs for Hickory Valley, the newest development that will provide 48 low income houses. Construction is still ongoing for the Oak Tree Towers development.
