Heavenly Host Lutheran Church To Host 12th Annual Oktoberfest Fundraiser

Heavenly Host Lutheran Church will host its 12th annual Oktoberfest celebration this Saturday, September 25th.

Organizer Donnie Baumgart said that the Heavenly Host Lutheran Church works to serve both the community and the students of its school.

“We preach the gospel and we have a school and our school is thriving,” Baumgart said. “And this Oktoberfest all the funds all the net profits go to support our school and it helps with some of the expenses of operating a school.”

Baumgart said that the Oktoberfest celebration will bring the culture of Germany right to the Cookeville community. He said that the event will have  a variety of German classic foods and activities for everyone to enjoy, including “hammerschlagen.”

“It’s a game where we’ve got a piece of wood and we have a hammer and you drive a nail,” Baumgart said. “But it’s a peen hammer and you use the small end and it’s a contest between two people to see who can drive their nail in first.”

Baumgart said in addition to helping with the expenses that come with running the school, the Oktoberfest celebration will also be a place to enjoy one another’s company.

“Well it’s just the atmosphere and social activity that we have there,” Baumgart said. “Everyone has a good time. And it’s just a way to enjoy the afternoon.”

Baumgart said meal tickets will be available at the festival for $12 for adults and $6 for kids aged 10 and under. Food will be served from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with the event going until 5 p.m.
