Hayes Satisfied With Monday Bid For South Church Paving

Livingston Mayor Curtis Hayes satisfied with Monday’s bid for the paving of South Church Street.

The city received bids from Rogers Group and Copeland DRP for the project, with Rogers Group turning in the lowest bid. Hayes said he will take the Rogers Group bid to the Board of Aldermen for a vote at its February meeting. Hayes said the city will be doing most of the work on the South Church Street project and that this bidding process was for the end stage.

“The paving will be the last thing to get done, but we will have the roads under construction, but this is a step we needed to go ahead and get out of the way,” Hayes said.

Hayes said the $132,000 price tag for the project was the best the city could get, and he was satisfied with amount, about $17,000 lower than the second bid.

The project was set to already be underway. However, the winter storm put those plans on hold. Hayes said he hopes the project will begin by next week.

“We’ll start with some of the drainage issues,” Hayes said. “We’ll start digging out. You’ll see some dirt work being moved. You’ll see some pavement being moved, so we’ll start some of the drainage process next week weather permitting.”

The work is part of the Church Street ARC Grant Improvement Project. The project will upgrade sidewalks, storm water drainage, lighting and utilities as well as adding sidewalks.

The grant funding for this project is from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). ARC is a federal economic development partnership.
