Governor Lee In UC Friday, Starting With Rock Island Tour

Governor Bill Lee was at Rock Island State Park Friday afternoon to tour the park’s Old Mill.

The focus of the tour was to show future possibilities for the site and how the state could create future uses. Lee said that tours like this with community leaders make challenges something that can be overcome.

“This spot right here is a perfect time to talk about it because it’s not only about the history and this is a very valuable piece of our history,” Lee said. “Part of what makes Tennessee so great. But we’re also celebrating the opportunity and the future that we have going forward.”

One TVA official said he hoped Lee saw the importance of preserving the old mill and Lee said he would not be in Rock Island today if it was not a priority. Lee stopped at the Old Mill for Tennessee’s 225th birthday, highlighting untold stories of Tennessee.

“There’s something here that most people in America don’t get to appreciate,” Lee said. “There’s something right here in Warren County that’s an example of that. It looks like a historical spot, a beautiful waterfall or landscape, but to me what it is, is the people and the communities that make it what it is.”

Lee emphasized his and legislatures dedication to the state’s park system and rural Tennessee. Lee spent Friday in the Upper Cumberland, following Rock Island State Park the governor went to White County and Dekalb County on Friday.
