Genesis House Needs Hygiene Donations With Fundraisers Cancelled

The Genesis House of the Upper Cumberland is in desperate need of hygiene and cleaning products since their big fundraisers have been cancelled.

Program Manager Denise Dillon said they’ve taken a monetary loss with COVID cancelling events like Handbags for Hope and Wine on The WestSide. Dillon said eight of ten people who come to Genesis House have nothing with them but the clothes on their back.

“They don’t even have lotion or shampoo or a comb, they don’t even get to bring their purses with them,” Dillon said. “A lot of times we’re even going to get them their birth certificate, their ID’s, Social Security card. Because they escape without anything.”

Dillon said the Genesis house has a clothes closet they open up to clients like a thrift store. However, she said day to day items are in short supply.

“We are just begging the community for any kind of cleaning products or hygiene products,” Dillon said. “The biggest need is soap, shampoo and body wash.”

She said anyone who can help out with these items can call Genesis House of the Upper Cumberland at 931-526-5197. She said once people let Genesis House know they want to donate, they will give a drop off location over the phone.
