Gainesboro Using FEMA Funding To Replace Cemetery Fencing

Gainesboro has received FEMA funding to repair flood damaged fencing at Ash Lane and the Gainesboro Cemetery.

Mayor Lloyd Williams said he estimates the area suffered about $7,000 of damage from last year’s flood event.

“March the 25th the rain and the flood damage that was around the Upper Cumberland, and we went ahead and applied for FEMA funds,” Williams said. “We tried to get our fence fixed which they approved. We also had some water and sewer damage which is still under review.”

Williams said bids for the fence will be accepted until 4:00 p.m. Thursday. Williams said the Board of Aldermen will open the prices of work during its meeting that night.

“We’ve had a couple of bids,” Williams said.

Over 300 feet of barbed wire fencing along with footings and posts included in the project. Williams said resting places were not damaged from the flood water.

“We have a gentlemen that is restoring them,” Williams said. “We’ve got people from the 1800’s. He is doing a great job on restoring our monuments. I just want to give him a little credit.”
