Gainesboro To Conduct Paving Project On Roads Near Park, Includes Parking Upgrades

Gainesboro set to begin a paving project in the next two months to upgrade roads near the park.

Mayor Lloyd Williams said the town’s roads are getting in bad shape and decided to prioritize the roads that need help the most. He said the Board of Aldermen decided to go with roads close to the newly-renovated Town Park.

“We invested in our park and we got a grant for it and we’re just now finishing up and it’s been a big hit,” Williams said. “But the parking around it is pretty bad, so we’re going to improve the parking and the rounds around it as well as South Murray Street.”

Williams said they have been working to save up money to fund paving projects. He said the bid for the project from Rogers Group came in at around $307,000, and about half of the cost will be covered with leftover ARP money.

Williams said Rogers Group is on a tight schedule. He said for that reason they hope that the work will be done by October, weather permitting.

“It’s going to be a good project,” Williams said. “We’re excited to get it done.”
