Gainesboro set Saturday as the night the city will observe Halloween this year since the holiday falls on a Sunday.
Alderman Wayne Strong said it would be best to give families the chance to fully enjoy the night.
“I mean really, with the smaller kids that have to go to school the next morning,” Strong said. “I don’t have any small kids but a lot of people do and go to work. I’ll make a motion to change it to Saturday night.”
Strong said he had been against moving the day Halloween is celebrated in the past but understands it makes things easier.
Mayor Lloyd Williams said he is always in favor of moving the holiday to a Friday or Saturday. Williams said it was the easiest vote on when to observe Halloween since it fell on a Wednesday church night.
