Talisha Ward hired as Gainesboro’s new municipal court clerk.
Gainesboro Mayor Lloyd Williams said Ward came from the Jackson County 9-1-1 Department. Williams said he is excited to have her aboard to assist in Gainesboro City Hall where only two other staffers typically work full-time. Ward was selected from a pool of eight candidates.
Ward replaces recently retired clerk Karen Head.
Gainesboro Aldermen also approved Shannon Copass as Gainesboro Planning and Zoning Advisor. Copass will replace David Starnes, set to retire in June. Williams said Copass was recommended by Starnes and will charge the same quarterly fee of $1,312.50 per quarter.
The board also approved the hiring of Joe Lynch to the Water Distribution Department. Williams said the department is shorthanded, but Lynch has stepped up from within the department and done a good job. Board Member Ricky Head said he believes Lynch is the right man for the job.
“I feel that we need to move him over there on it because he knows where stuff’s at and everything,” Head said. “You know, before we hire anybody else, I figured he needed to be over there on the distribution side.”
The board approved the hiring of Dustin Durflinger as a full-time police officer. Police Chief Mickey Smith said he plans to send Durflinger to Nashville when a police academy spot becomes available for his three-month training.
“He listens well and he’s doing very well right now,” Smith said.
