Gainesboro Adds Left Turn Signal To Existing Stop Light

A new left turn signal was installed this week on Highway 56 heading into Gainesboro.

Mayor Lloyd Williams said motorists can now use a light to turn left off of Grundy Quarles Highway onto East Hull Avenue.

“Sometimes you’ll have to sit through the light, because of the oncoming traffic,” Williams said. “There’s not a break where you can go left, so this will help out a lot with just the safety and people trying to pull out in front of people.”

Williams said the second part of this project are new school zone flashing lights at the Gainesboro Elementary school. Williams said that work is expected to begin next week.

“The ones we have are probably 25 to 30 years old, and you don’t really notice how bad they look until we apply these new ones,” Williams said. “We really need them.”

Williams said the projects are a part of a T-DOT traffic light modernization program. The town was awarded $50,000 to conduct the work. Williams said it has been about a year process to get to this point.

“Our total I think was $45,900 and there was no match to this so that was a big help,” Williams said.
