A crash-landing at the Upper Cumberland Regional Airport Friday night now being investigated by the FAA.
Airport Manager Dean Selby said a pilot experiencing engine failure landed just short of the runway on the airport’s grounds. He said these types of incidents are not very common.
“Because of the fact that people want to hear about aircraft accidents, you’ll see them in the media more so than if it was just a small fender bender in a car or something to that effect,” Selby said. “Whereas an aircraft accident sometimes is not. So that’s why we tend to think we see more of them, but if you look at the statistical analysis it’s really quite rare.”
Selby said the occupant is okay and there were no injuries. He said the single-engine two-place aircraft did sustain damage.
Selby said after the pilot contacted the line service and 911 was contacted, he reported the incident to the FAA as per protocol. Selby said the FAA will work to determine the cause of the engine failure.
