The Smithville-Dekalb County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a movie Saturday night at the Smithville First Baptist Church.
Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Suzanne Williams said that, thanks to all of the event sponsors, the event is free for anyone–not just in Dekalb County,.
“It’s hard to find anything that’s really, really free, and this really is–everything from the food to the movie,” Williams said. “It’s family-friendly so you don’t have to worry, you bring the kids, you bring the grandparents, bring everybody.”
Williams said she people can expect a fun-filled evening with free hotdogs and snacks, a great movie, and a sense of togetherness.
“I think just the fun of everybody coming together and playing the whiffle ball together before the Sandlot movie–I think it’s just going to be a really sweet atmosphere and people can enjoy it in a safe way,” Williams said.
Williams said she wants the community to experience the joys of life again after a year of isolation indoors.
“We’re trying to have some events that are safe and that are still in an environment that’ll bring a lot of fun, a lot of joy,” Williams said. “We also didn’t want it to be a financial burden so you don’t have to worry about anything to pay for so I think they’ll enjoy that too.”
The movie night will be held on Saturday, June 12th. The whiffle ball game sponsored by Infinity Athletics will start at 7 p.m. and the showing of the Sandlot will be at 8 p.m.
