Foundation Acquires Land For Soccer Facility

The Joseph Warlick Memorial Foundation has acquired a piece of property on Chocolate Drive in Cookeville to build a new soccer facility.

Co-Founder Elizabeth Warlick said the foundation is giving the business currently at the property a couple months to move out. Warlick said the goal is to start construction as soon as the property is vacated and have the facility ready by this fall.

“We’re designing some architecture plans and some contractor agreements right now to add handicap accessible bathrooms, two five v. five soccer fields, meeting rooms, conference rooms, a party room, just different areas that can host indoor soccer,” Warlick said.

The foundation had been deep in talks with Algood, but decided to move ahead elsewhere after several legal issues developed. Warlick said the foundation had been in negotiations with several different locations over the last few years but none of them worked out. Warlick said this new property recently came on the market and the timing was right for the foundation to purchase it without issue.

“We rely heavily on donors and this is going to be a big adventure and a leap of faith for the foundation and our family,” Warlick said. “That we have partners within the communities of the Upper Cumberland to join us to make this a top-notch facility.”

Warlick said the foundation is excited to offer soccer to all athletes, regardless of ability or socioeconomic status. Warlick said the facility’s extra features will allow for all kinds of extra events like team meetings, kid’s parties, and tournaments.

“We needed meeting rooms for the soccer teams to meet in and then that will be some offices for some of our foundation’s staff and much needed space for other meetings from after-school activities if needed,” Warlick said. “And then we just think it would be an ideal opportunity to host parties in order to increase the revenue of the building.”
