Jackson Schools Receives $3,500 Nutrition Rebate

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has awarded the Jackson County Schools with a $3,500 nutrition rebate.

School Nutrition Director Kim Sells said the school system received the rebate to help pay for food transportation and storage. Sells said the $3,500 would be a big help in covering some of those costs.

“Well as you know the cost of food is very expensive and it just helps make it possible that our money can go to the food to feed the children the best nutritional value,” Sells said.

Sells said the school system pays Institutional Wholesale Company to serve as a warehouse and food distribution center. Sells said Jackson County Schools was one of several other school systems to receive the rebate.

According to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s website, the rebate is to also make the United States Department of Agriculture bulk food commodities more ready-for-use products.
