Tennessee Tech’s Foster Hall has been demolished, leaving just a pile of rubble.
Capital Projects and Planning Director Jim Cobb said workers are now sorting through the remains of the building for recyclable materials and various metals. Cobb said the main demolition and clean up work should be done within the next two weeks.
“The site will eventually be restored to green space, but the next phase of this project is to renovate Johnson Hall, so the footprint of Foster will actually be used as a construction lay down area for the materials needed to renovate Johnson Hall,” Cobb said.
Cobb said the contractor has until November 30 to complete the rest of Foster Hall project which includes site restoration efforts like filling in the basement. He said the eventual green space will include a lawn, landscaping, seating areas, and walkways.
“It’s adjacent to the new pedestrian plaza that’s nearing completion at the old intersection of University Drive and Wings Up Way,” Cobb said.
Cobb said that pedestrian paths will be altered and some parking will be fenced off around Johnson Hall as the project continues and Johnson Hall’s renovation begins.
“Other than impacts immediately around the building, there should not be any other than those,” Cobb said.
Cobb said the contractor has made arrangements to use the debris as fill material for another unrelated site.
