Cumberland County Commission reappointed County Mayor Allen Foster as its commission chair.
Foster said in Cumberland County, the Mayor is typically also the chair.
“If you are the chairman of your county commission as the mayor you vote only in case of a tie, and you also give up your ability to veto,” Foster said. “So if the Mayor is not the chairman, they would have the ability, if the commission passes something they strongly disagree with, they would have the ability to veto it.”
Foster said the commission also appointed Commissioner Terry Lowe as Chairman Pro-Tem for another term. Foster said while the chair is historically also the County Mayor, the Chair Pro-Tem position can be any county commission.
The county commission also appointed members to its standing committees.
