Former White County Corrections Officer Indicted

The White County Criminal Court will arraign a former White County Corrections officer on Wednesday.

The White County Grand Jury charged Jacob Young on Monday with two counts of Aggravated Perjury and one count of Aggravated Assault. District Attorney General Bryant Dunnaway said the charges came after jail video footage revealed Young lied under oath and assaulted an inmate.

“Once the case was bound over to the grand jury by the general sessions judge, we began to review the file in detail,” Dunnaway said. “And discovered as we reviewed the video, it was not consistent with the testimony of the corrections officer.”

Young obtained an arrest warrant for a inmate, who allegedly assaulted him. As a result of the alleged assault, Young used force against the inmate and said under oath the force was justified. The claimed assault never happened making the testimony false.

“The inmate was charge with assaulting the officer which ended up not being true,” Dunnaway said. “That is the nature of one of the charges against the former correctional officer. We were not aware of the incident until that process began.”

Young resigned his employment with White County Sheriff’s Office prior to the case being presented to the Grand Jury. Dunnaway said the assault charge on the inmate was dropped.

“The law enforcement agencies and officers in our judicial district are among the best in the State,” Dunnaway said. “They do an honorable job. It is a rare occasion when an officer behaves poorly. It is heartbreaking to be in this position to have to present such evidence to a Grand Jury, but dishonesty and illegal conduct can not be tolerated.”
