The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for all of the Upper Cumberland with the exception of Van Buren County and most of Warren County.
The advisory runs until 1:45pm as small creeks and streams continue to overflow their banks in many counties. More than six inches of rain fell Saturday in most locales with amounts around nine inches estimated by doppler radar in areas of Clay, Jackson and Smith counties.
National Weather Service forecasters said it will take several days for the water to get back to normal levels across the Upper Cumberland due to the amount of runoff.
Emergency officials report many roads impassable. Roads near streams and creaks may be eroding, something you could not quickly see as you drive. A reminder to not try to pass a water-covered road. A foot of water will float most vehicles. Turn around, don’t drown.
The rain has moved out and sunny, much cooler weather will be the story for the next several days.
