Live music, concession stands, and children activities will not be part of Algood’s Fourth of July celebration.
The only event planned this year is the annual fireworks show. City Administrator Keith Morrison said this was a tough decision for he and the event committee.
“It was very difficult, especially since we’ve made a lot of progress bringing the event back and making it bigger and bigger each year,” Morrison said. “Of course earlier we had already decided that…a lot of the kids activities just weren’t going to be feasible at all.”
The fireworks show will take place June 27. Morrison said the park will be closed to discourage residents from gathering in large groups. He said people can view the fireworks by parking at City Hall, the Farmer’s Market, and the Walmart parking lot.
Marks Pops Inc. preforms the show every Fourth of July. Morrison said he thinks the fireworks show gets better every year.
“We always feel like we get a great show, and I think sometimes they’re a little hard on themselves if things didn’t go right,” Morrison said. “They try to make it even better next year to make up for what has happened. They always do an exceptional job.”
Fireworks will begin at 9:00 p.m.
