Fire Crews Conduct Water Rescue On Cookeville Motorist

A stranded vehicle on a flooded Willow Avenue caused a water rescue by local fire crews Thursday morning.

Putnam County EMA Director Tyler Smith said a single driver tried to drive through high water levels. Smith said the car started floating and taking in water.

“Around 3:00 to 4:00 a.m. some street flooding on Willow,” Smith said. “A car got stranded in some high waters in between Spring and Broad Street there on Willow. The Fire Department had to come in and get that person out of the vehicle, but other than that just a few tress blown down.”

Smith said there was a tree that fell and partially covered Burgess Falls Road. Smith said a county property owner also had a small building damaged by high winds.

“We received some wind damage,” Smith said. “It was really more of a flood threat due to heavy rains this morning.”

Smith said the situation serves as a reminder to not cross a road that you cannot see.
