45 positive COVID-19 test results in Fentress County Wednesday, bringing the five day total to 105.
The county’s positive rate, the percentage of positive tests, stands at better than 31 percent. CDC guidance says the number should stay around five percent.
Fentress County Mayor Jimmy Johnson said more testing has produced higher numbers.
“As far as our active cases, we are still one below-one percent above, one percent of our total population of Fentress County,” Johnson said. “We have 18,000 people here and we’re at 167 on the active list, and so that is still just down below one percent of the total population.”
18 percent of the county’s total COVID-19 cases since March have been diagnosed in the last week.
Johnson said over 80 people were tested Tuesday. Normally that number is less than 20 a day.
“We’re hoping people don’t have a lot of large crowds, we kindly control our own destiny that way,” Johnson said. “But we are asking people every day to wash and sanitize your hands frequently, wear a mask if you’re out in a big crowd, and social distance.”
If anyone feels sick they should visit the doctor and get tested, Johnson said. He said CDC guidelines are frequently printed in the local paper and broadcast on local radio to remind the public.
