Fentress County to Purchase Fuel System, Tractor

The Fentress County Highway Department plans to purchase a new fuel system and tractor with a three-year capital outlay note.

County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the department has used the current fuel system for about 30 years.

“It has started leaking water and drudge and sand and stuff into the bottom of it someway. And if they get lowness of a 1,000 gallons they have to fill up the tank then,” Johnson said. “Because if you wait and let the fuel get any lower when you fill the tank up it will stir all the debris up in there and it gets into your vehicles.”

Johnson said the department also needed a new tractor for road clearing within the county.

“They are going to purchase a tractor with a 22-foot arm boom on it with a bush hog type cutter on the end,” Johnson said. “So they can do right-of-way clearing, and trimming and mowing and such.”

Johnson said the funding for the capital outlay note will come from a local bank.

“We work with the banks here in Fentress County and we put it and got bids on it,” Johnson said. “And it will come from one of these local banks at a low-interest rate.”

The Tennessee Comptroller issued an approval for the note with a maximum of $230,000.
