Fentress County’s ADA compliance projects are about 70 to 80 percent complete.
That is according to Fentress County Executive Jimmy Johnson who said they’ve been working on 21 buildings since October. Johnson said with the $1.2 million in state funding they’ve been able to address parks, ball fields, the senior center and the library.
“Biggest one right now, we’re going to have to do restrooms at one of our ball parks,” Johnson said. “We just went ahead and also did the complete restoration of the announcers booth and the concession stand because there hasn’t been anything done to it since in the mid-70’s.”
Johnson said he expects the rest of the county’s ADA compliance work to wrap up this Summer. He said the final projects to complete are at the South Fentress and Kirby Johnson Ball Parks.
Johnson said getting this money from the state was a blessing for the county. He said if the money had not come in from the state, Fentress County would have had to do this work from its own fund balance.
“We gave $50,000 to the highway department for bridge and road work here,” Johnson said. “We’ve bought some tools and such for the fire department to use. Some of the money’s went to ambulance, some of the money has went to the school system and some of the money has also went to the sheriff’s department.”
Johnson said the county got the funding in July, and were able to begin work in October. He said he expects the county to complete the ADA compliance work within a year of getting the funding.
