Fentress County Moving Forward with New Tractor, Fuel System

The Fentress County Highway Department will move forward with purchasing a new tractor and fueling system.

County Executive Jimmy Johnson said commissioners approved the department’s 2018 debt obligations during their last meeting, which included the new equipment.

“What they’re doing is installing a new fuel system at the county highway department. It got really dilapidated and it was not doing real well,” Johnson said. “The underground tanks were leaking and such, so they are spending money on that. And, they are also spending money to buy a new tractor with a 22-foot reach arm for mowing right-of-ways.”

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office previously approved a note for a max amount of $230,000 in December. The Comptroller’s Office required the commission to approve the debt obligations before the purchase could continue.

The county also approved a $38,000 budget amendment for facility updates, surplus equipment purchases, and additional road signage.
