Fentress Approves Bid For New Health Department Roof In Special Meeting

The Fentress County Commission approved a rebid to replace the roof of the health department building Monday night.

Commissioners met during a special-called meeting. County Executive Jimmy Johnson said the roof was supposed be replaced last year due to old age, but the project was delayed and had to be rebid.

“No it was just getting old, and you know how roofs do, when they start getting old they start leaking,” Johnson said. “This was money that they got appropriated last year through the state. It’s been on there for like 20 years, 25 years and it needed to be replaced.”

Johnson said the commissioners were not scheduled to meet until December and the board needed to move the funds for the project from last year’s budget to this year’s budget. Johnson said the project is expected to take around 30 days once the project begins.

“They might possibly want to get it done, specs out, and be able to go forward with the project,” Johnson said.

Johnson said the money for project came from state grants for the health department.

“You’re starting in the winter season so it won’t take long at all,” Johnson said.

In other business, the budget committee approved a Christmas bonus for all employees of the county, both full-time and part-time.
