The number of homes without electricity is climbing in Livingston with fallen trees causing outages.
Police Chief Greg Etheredge said the Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation has crews on ground working on restoring power.
“We are having some trees coming down and some power lines down,” Etheredge said.”Specifically, here over around Carr and Airport Road. That general area and over at Hidden Valley are the main ones at the moment.”
Etheredge said the police department is preparing its office as a shelter for those without electricity. Etheredge said to call the department at (931) 823-6496 if you have no power and are worried about the weather overnight.
“We are prepping the PD just in case it gets so cold that we need to bring people in here,” Etheredge said. “We will set this up as a shelter, because we have back up generators that are operational.
Etheredge said the most important thing now is to keep roads empty. Etheredge said almost all are still icy and roadways need to be clear to continue work on outages.
“In order for the emergency crews to get the power restored and the streets cleaned and salted the best they can, the less traffic we have right now will help else more than anything,” Etheredge said.
City and county crews are continuing to brine roads, but Etheredge said the rain is causing issues with deployment. No major accidents have occurred throughout Monday’s winter storm, according to Etheredge.
