The Cookeville Fire Department responded to a Fairground Street house fire on Thursday night.
Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the call came in from a neighbor at 6:26 PM, being advised by dispatch that smoke was visible. Blair said crews were on scene in minutes and attacked the fire from inside the home.
“They contained it in that room and when they made entry they did have flames showing in that room,” Blair said. “But were able to knock it down and get control of it and the residents were not at home at the time of the call.”
Blair said a cause of fire cannot be confirmed, however the initial thoughts are that fire started with a lamp shade and possibly a candle. Blair said only a single room in the home suffered damages but there was smoke throughout the home.
He said crews were on scene combating the fire for 75 minutes.
