Fairfield Glade PD Increasing Pedestrian Safety Efforts With New Signage

Fairfield Glade Police Department partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to increase education, awareness, and enforcement efforts.

Captain  Fred Sherrill said with the help of grant funding, the department was able to purchase around 40 signs asking drivers to slow down or be cautious of pedestrians. He said starting Wednesday, the department will be placing the signs in various locations and subdivisions throughout Fairfield Glade based on recent accident and speeding statistics.

“We’re seeing more, the crashes and stuff that we’re having here, a lot of them are being related to speed,” Sherrill said. “And so we’re trying to cut those off ahead of time. You know we want to keep our people safe.”

Sherrill said the signs have been well-received by the community. He said as he was placing the signs, some residents specifically asked to have them placed in their yards.

Sherrill said with many people using roads for extracurriculars, such as biking or walking, it is vital to have the proper safety precautions in place.

“And we’re lucky that we’ve been able to get these dollars to purchase this equipment using hte help the Tennessee Highway Safety Office,” Sherrill said.
