Experience Crossville from a Vintage Airplane

Catch a flight and get a history lesson all in one at Crossville Memorial Airport on Saturday, May 29th.

Crossville is hosting the Fly on the Ford event, where visitors can explore the airport and also have the chance to fly in a vintage airplane. Airport Director of Operations Greg Livingston said that it is a national program coming right to the people of Crossville.

“The Tri-Motor Aircraft goes around to different airports all over the country and they set up for a week and fly for about four days of that week and it’s a great opportunity for people to fly in a piece of history,” Livingston said.

The Fly the Ford program is run by the Experimental Aircraft Association. Livingston said he hopes people take the opportunity to experience a fun historical experience.

“It’s a loud, smoky, old airplane but it’s safe, they do a lot of maintenance, they keep things up tight on it, but it’s just neat to be flying around in something that was built in the 30s,” Livingston said.

Livingston said this is just one event the airport hosts to try and foster a stronger relationship with the community.

“The airport belongs to the citizens of Crossville, so they ought to be to come out here and see what’s going on, what the airport brings to the community as far as different industries that are supported by it, and tourism,” Livingston said.

The Fly on the Ford event runs from Thursday, May 27th to Monday, May 31st. Flights are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m Friday-Sunday, and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Tickets for flights range from $52 to $72 on EAA’s website. Ticket prices for walk-ups are $77.
