White County Director Of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said education officials are considering a two-year plan to help students rebound from the two-month COVID-19 shutdown.
“We can’t expect to make this all up in one fell swoop,” Dronebarger said Thursday. “It looks like it’s going to be a lengthy procedure.”
That will likely included adjusted schedules for schools beginning this fall to accommodate more learning because of the time missed.
Dronebarger said local school systems will likely provide some remediation materials to parents for the upcoming summer months to begin that process.
“We need parents to stay involved like never before with their children’s education,” Dronebarger said.
Dronebarger’s comments came Thursday night in a virtual town hall presented by State Senator Paul Bailey. Thousands of local residents joined the conference call asking questions on numerous topics. An unscientific poll conducted during the call found 68 percent of the respondents more concerned about the economic risks of COVID-19 than the health risks at this point.
