Drinking And Driving Tops Halloween Safety Concerns

With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, local law enforcement is advising people to remain cautious of drinking and driving.

Cookeville Police Captain Bobby Anderson said if you go to a party and plan on drinking, to make sure you have a plan to get home.

“Make sure you have a designated driver if you plan on drinking any alcohol,” Anderson said. “If you are going with several people, always make sure that you designate someone to be the sober driver and be the responsible one to keep up with everybody’s keys.”

Anderson said more Halloween parties will likely be happening this year. With increased foot traffic of trick-or-treaters, drivers should be more watchful while traveling.

“We are going to have trick-or-treaters out as well,” Anderson said. “It is probably going to look a little different this year due to COVID. A lot of businesses are doing trunk-or-treat, which is going to isolate trick-or-treaters to specific areas, which should keep people safer. But at the same time, you want to watch out for any trick-or-treaters that may venture out and go to door to door.”

Anderson said he recommends children to wear reflective clothing and carry a flashlight Saturday night.
