The Dogwood Park Fountain will remain closed until further notice.
State guidelines last week suggested all splash pads will remain closed. Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said Cookeville will continue to follow the state recommendations.
“If that changes next week, then we will look to see if reopening makes sense for our community based on our numbers at that time with conversation with our local health department,” Woods said.
Woods said the fountain can still open this summer if allowed by the state. Reopening the fountain is an easy process. All the city has to do is turn the water back on and clean the facility.
Woods said all parks including the Heart of the City Playground will also remain closed until further notice.
Cookeville strictly follows the Tennessee Pledge for reopening responsibly. Under recommended closures, it states, “Avoid opening playgrounds and high-contact water play areas (e.g., splashpads) until advisable.”
On Friday, Dogwood Park hosted the After Dark Movies in the Park event. Woods said residents participated in social distancing and were considerate of others.
