Boosting your immune system. It is something that can be easily achieved by making a switch in your daily diet.
Those trying to avoid sickness need to consider foods high in vitamin C. Cane Creek Special Programs Coordinator Jen Webb said citrus fruits and red peppers are among the best.
“If you think about the food that you are eating is the fuel that your body is running on,” Webb said. “By putting in good things that help your body function better and work at its best and so that it might be able to better fight off things when you come in contact with them. It can really make a huge difference.”
Webb said those that struggle with daily vitamin intake should consider supplements. Webb said while making your choice, stick with nutrition that comes from a natural food source.
“You have to think about where the supplement is coming from,” Webb said. “Is it coming from a natural food source? Our bodies definitely work better with a natural food source. That would be your first choice. If you can’t get all that food in and start to look at supplementation, then just make sure the supplement you are taking is coming from as close as a natural food source as you can get.”
Webb said if you want more antioxidants and other vitamins, try adding broccoli and spinach. For gut health, eat more yogurt and to reduce inflammation add more ginger.
“Start small,” Webb said. “With each meal, try to involve a fruit and a vegetable and steer clear from fried foods.”
