The developer of a 10th Street shopping development has appealed a Cookeville Planning Commission decision to the City Council.
The council will hear the appeal December 7. The commission upheld the original rules concerning signage at the Old Kentucky Commons Shopping Center where Wendy’s wants to build a new location. Community Development Director Jon Ward said city council approved strict regulations for signage during the creation of the shopping center that houses Food City.
The developed asked for five amendments to the original PCD. The planning commission approved two: the subdividing of two out parcels to create the Wendy’s location and an approval of architecturals for the facility. Two others amendments were denied and those were not appealed.
That included changing the uses of several pieces of property in the shopping center. Those were not appealed.
Ward said the uses for the southernmost parcels on the property were limited to office space under Planned Commercial Development requirements. Developers also made proposals to allow those parcels to be used for other purposes like additional restaurants. Ward said the Commission denied that proposal but it has not been appealed.
“That’s what was included in their letter when they submitted the amendments was to allow for casual dining or similar-type retail stores,” Ward said.
“We’ll have December to get into more discussion on it,” City Manager James Mills said. “We’re just setting a date for now to let the public know that it has been appealed so they’ll have an opportunity to come speak.”
