Design Phase Still Underway For S. Jefferson Waterline Replacement

Design phase still underway for Cookeville’s South Jefferson waterline replacement project.

Water Quality Department Director Barry Turner said that at the same time as the design phase, the city is working to get acquire easements.

“They are still the plans they’re not to the finished parts yet but just to try and speed up the project we’ve already started on getting easements,” Turner said. “A lot of times we don’t do easements until after the design is finished but just trying to move ahead on it. So the designs have to be completed and then go to the state for their approval.”

Turner said that it looks like the city will bid out the project sometime in spring. The line to be replaced extends from the Putnam County Courthouse to I-40 and serves as a precursor to a T-DOT paving project.

The current plan for replacement is to put down a 10-inch, ductile iron line, and to shut down all the other old lines connecting to it. Turner said that there are old lines all throughout town they try to work on every year. He said this is one of the larger undertakings because it’s a state road.
