DeKalb County High School named a new recipient of the Supporting Postsecondary Access in Rural Communities (SPARC) grant.
SPARC grants from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) are awarded to distressed and at-risk counties in the state. CTE Director Brad Leach said the school is set to receive $102,000 to upgrade and enhance CTE programs.
“This money is really going to help us as far as expanding our programs at DeKalb County High School,” Leach said. “To help our students to gain knowledge and education toward helping them get a career and a job in the workforce.”
Leach said they will put the money towards the agriculture program to upgrade and buy supplies for the greenhouse. He said they are also looking at upgrading the advanced manufacturing program as well as implementing certification programs.
Leach said now that the school board has approved receiving the grant, they hope to get the funds sometime in January.
“We’re just pleased to be able to get this grant and to be able to use it for our students,” Leach said. “And I just really appreciate our Director of Schools, Patrick Cripps, and our School Board in support of this grant and in support of our CTE programs to help our students make a better way and get prepared for the workforce.”
