Dance Giant Bass Open To Highlight Dale Hollow’s Unique Fishing, Slot Limit

A distinct fishing environment. That’s one of the attributes bringing new fishing tournaments to Dale Hollow Lake, according to Bill Dance Giant Bass Open Creator Shane Frazier.

The Open announced its 2024 schedule includes a weekend at Dale Hollow Lake. Frazier said the lake was chosen from a group of thirteen Bill Dance Signature Lakes due to its diverse fishing for both largemouth and smallmouth bass. Frazier said the lake also has an unusual slot limit that the tournament organizers are going to use to make the event even more unique.

“What we are going to do is we are going to have an over division and also an under division.” Frazier said. “So guys could be fishing for, you know, those giant fish if they want or they can be trying to fish for the, you know, fish that are under that slot limit.”

Frazier said the event will hosted at the Sunset Marina in Monroe, which he said received enhancements during the Bill Dance Signature Lakes Project several years ago.

“I love Dale Hollow as a lake,” Frazier said. “I grew up fishing up on Dale Hollow and think it’s just a phenomenal fishery, so we wanted to, you know, incorporate that into our, you know, into our 2024 schedule.”

Frazier said Dale Hollow Lake will be the host for the third event with the Giant Bass Open since their inaugural event in October. He said the lake’s slot limit is usually a deterrent for the standard five-fish format tournaments.

“The way our format works is you can weigh in every single hour, and you just weigh in one bass each hour,” Frazier said. “So, you know, it kind of takes the pressure off of like a five-fish, your traditional five-fish limit format, when you’re doing big bass only in a, you know, in a lake that has a slot limit.”

The event takes place on Saturday, March 30 and Sunday, March 31.
