The Cummins Falls State Park overlook project will move forward with a TDEC-awarded Recreational Trails Program grant.
Park Manager Ray Cutcher said the project will pick up with a workshop meeting.
“There will be a workshop set up for those who have been awarded each grant to cover all the processes we have to do in managing the funds for that grant,” Cutcher said. “And then the whole project. So that is pretty much the next steps for us right now.”
The RTP grant awards Cummins Falls with 200 thousand dollars. The falls will match with 50 thousand dollars.
Cummins Falls will use the funding to start work on the ADA-accessible overlook.
“I think it will be a great benefit to our visitors. Right now the overlook spot is small and it’s not so much that people with much disability can access it and get a good view of the waterfall,” Cutcher said. “So not only will it allow those who do have disabilities or are needing a wheelchair to get there, allow them some advantage point to see the waterfall, but it will allow everyone a better vantage point over the overlook.”
Cutcher said the project does not have a definite start and end date.
“I am hoping that the overlook can be built by sometime next year, next calendar year, 2019,” Cutcher said. “I feel pretty confident that it can be but I don’t know the exact time frames.”
