Cummins Falls State Park has applied for the Recreational Trails Program grant in order to create an ADA-accessible overlook.

“Since we established the park, we wanted to have an improvement there at the overlook to make it a much better overlook than it is,” Cutcher said, “And to allow all people the opportunity to be able to get out there and have a good experience viewing the waterfall.”
To begin work on the overlook, the park needs funding. If the park matches with 20 percent of the funding, the RTP grants the remaining 80 percent. Public support provides Cummins with a better RTP application, Cutcher said.
“They give points for different things in the application,” Cutcher said. “Of course, the more support you have from the community the better the part will score.”
The park held two public meetings in March to rally support. Cummins Falls does not have a start date for the project.
“The whole process, most of the time, takes about two years from the time we submit the grant application until the time the project is done,” Cutcher said. “According to the contractors we’ve talked too, this could be built and it shouldn’t take an extremely long time to build it. So, I’m hoping that in about a year and a half we could have it built.”
