All seven members of the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority have been appointed.
The Cumberland County Commission approved four members that include Greg Hanson, Thom Hassler, Missy Sliger and Sean Stephens. Mayor Allen Foster said he nominated members that represent a wide range of professions.
“Bookkeepers and developers and things like that,” Foster said. “We have construction people. Just wanted a really wide variety of experience. One is a former commissioner. One has served on a water board before, so just wanted to have something that truly represents the public.”
The Crossville City Council appointed its three members last week. Foster said the next step is to have the first organizational meeting to appoint the board’s leadership structure.
Foster said after that, dialogue will begin with the utility districts within the county. Foster said the board needs to find a way to work together and decide how to find a new water source for the county.
“We’re going to need to prepare for the future,” Foster said. “We are growing rapidly here and that is a need coming up. If the projections 10 years out even, that’s much quicker than it seems when finding a solution for a problem like this.”
