Cumberland Officials Appoint New Veterans Service Officer

Cumberland County has a new Veterans Service Officer in James Dignan (Dig-Nen).

Dignan was appointed by Mayor Allen Foster and confirmed by the county commission to replace Garry Blaisdell who is retiring. Dignan served in the Navy 29 years achieving a Lieutenant Commander ranking.

“A call to continue to serve,” Dignan said. “I knew I wanted to do something that would fill my heart and our vets. We just need a lot of help. There is a lot of misinformation out there. There is so much help that is available that is just unknown.”

Dignan said he will officially start work on March 6th. With more than 7,000 veterans in Cumberland County, Dignan said homelessness and veteran suicide two prevalent issues he would like to focus on.

Dignan said he is currently training on how to assist veterans navigate the benefits available to them. Dignan said he will be stationed in the old courthouse on Main Street in Crossville.
