The Cumberland County Clerk’s Office will be closed Wednesday afternoon and all day Thursday for upgrades to its server and computer systems.
Cumberland County Deputy Clerk Cheryl Threet said three technicians began work Tuesday and hope to finish up on Friday morning in time to reopen. She said the upgraded system will help expedite and simplify online tag renewal and vehicle registration.
“That is the server that we use that is connected with the state department to get all vehicles registered,” Threet said. “And it’s also the server that’s used for when you buy a business license or you’re renewing your business license, and also for a marriage license.”
Threet said an update is required each year to stay compliment with annual changes in state requirements. She said she believes the upgraded server will create a much quicker online process for residents.
“We certainly don’t want to slow anyone down with getting renewals completed, so we will keep that up to date as much as possible,” Threet said.
She said the Cumberland County Codes Department will be closed throughout the upgrade process as well. She said if all goes to plan, the closure will last from noon on Wednesday until 8:00am on Friday.
“We will update with the state system as well as the local system here in our building,” Threet said. “And they will be here for approximately three days.”
She said while the current server works fine, the annual update is required by the state and is likely to improve upon the system presently in place.
