Cumberland Caverns in McMinnville will reopen Friday with limited access.
Cumberland Caverns General manager Travis Young said they are trying their best to follow Governor Lee’s recommendations of social distancing by limiting access to the caverns.
“You can stand six feet apart and social distance on the tour with ten people no problem, and be able to enjoy, see and hear the tour very well,” Young said.
Young said they have even added additional outside seating outside their gift shop as visitors wait to be allowed inside.
“We took precautions throughout the cave and put hand sanitizer stations throughout the cave,” Young said. “We also have mask and gloves for our employees.”
Cumberland Caverns stands as the second longest cave in the state. The main entrance was discovered by Aaron Higgenbotham in 1810. It serves as a popular end-of-school-year destination for school groups. Young said Cumberland Caverns has lost a significant amount of profits due to all school field trips and overnight stays being cancelled during the shut down.
While being closed, Cumberland Caverns disinfected and deep cleaned all their facilities.
